In 2020 and 2021, many governments divided the population into "essentials" and "non-essentials", and then again into "citizens" and "non-citizens". Should our politicians cause more anxiety by imposing in-and-out policies on us? How can we find the inner peace we need to develop a shared vision?
Symbolizing unity, eternal renewal and beauty, a ring set with a pearl strikes a unique balance of heritage and contemporaneity. This Human-sized ring leans into a corner to define a small sanctuary. Ring Of Shelter reveals an intimate scene in which the complementary forces of privacy and community, safety and risk, serenity and urgency, introspection and representation are convergent.
We are invited to withdraw into this installation and, as in the process of creating mother-of-pearl, cultivate an inner sense of resilience to reinvent a collective narrative for the future that is strong, radiant and precious.
