Porte Z is a kind of bursted diamond: an in situ art installation I have made for Z33 museum in Hasselt/Belgium, challenging the new museum wing designed by Francesca Torzo, which is extending the former Expo 58 building.
Through a construction of stretched ropes between the walls, floor and ceiling, I created a web within which the visitor can enter, echoing the almost labyrinthine structure of the museum.
By following the winding tracks the web suggests, visitors can apprehend the space from unexpected angles.
In this way, they acquire a sensorial understanding of the space through their body. Porte Z heightens the awareness of the way in which the building operates and reveals the inner choreography that is imbedded in its plan.
